Rohini J. Haar

Dr. Haar's research focuses on the health impacts of human rights violations, war crimes, and disasters. Her work includes studying the effects of torture, violations of free speech and assembly, and violence against healthcare systems in conflict settings, with ongoing research in Colombia, Syria and Myanmar. Her work extends into how disasters—both climate-related and conflict-driven—disproportionately affect vulnerable populations and compound existing health inequities. Recent projects include investigating the health impacts of crowd control weapons such as tear gas and rubber bullets, and serving as chapter editor on the 2022 revision of the Istanbul Protocol and assessing health needs around wildfires. She specializes in protecting health workers and health services in fragile contexts and developing robust research methodologies in dynamic situations.
